*sigh*….I usually never do this. I try to avoid things like this but I just wanna get this out there. To the people who don’t….agree…with the idea of Giovanni potentially getting a redemption arc. I understand for some of you Giovanni’s character can be relatable to that of a narcissistic abuser and has done so many horrible things and that most of you have you own real versions of Giovanni in your personal lives, whether it be a family member, and friend, etc. Speaking as an abuse victim myself, I try to distance myself and my own personal experiences with fictional characters, I personally don’t go that deep. At the end of the day he’s a fictional character nonetheless. Just because I have possible ideas to give villans some form of redemption doesn’t make me and “abuse apologist”
To me Giovanni is the same as any evil character, whether they’re from games or movies, that has had their own version of redemption or being redeemed in some mannor.
Loki (Marvel), Prince Zuko (AtLA), Darth Vader , Professor Snape (Harry Potter), Venom….I can go on about the list of villans that had been redeemed, regardless if it was in a big or small way. EVEN THANOS! you know, the titan who had a life mission to wipe out half the life on the planet, calling it “salvation”? Spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen the Marvel What If series but Thanos actually turned good, or I should say had the possibility of turning good if things went differently. I consider that a form of redemption. (God knows how Marvel loves to reform villans)
So with all these villans in mind. WHY should Giovanni be the only one exempted from redemption??
If people want to take it soooo literal like Giovanni was actually a real person than riddle me this then. Who are YOU to judge or limit other people’s chances of redeeming themselves?? There are so many REAL people out there who have murdered, abused, done things that most people simply cannot forgive. Yet because some of those people at some point in their lives made a choice, a choice to make things different, they’ve reshaped who they are for the better. I speak from experience that I have met people who have done horrible things in their past and made the choice to better themselves, even went to rehabilitation to set themselves straight.
One of these people happens to be a close friend of mine, who spent 15 years in jail, is now re-married with a 6 year old daughter and is living happily with his family.
People. Can. Change. Its never too late. No matter who they are or what they’ve done. But ONLY, if they want to change. So if I was to have Giovanni make the choice to change, who are you to give me any gripe about it?! :V
