Getting the boyfriend to watch Steven Universe and it’s interesting. He knew next to nothing about it, so that’s fun.
We just had the reveal that Garnet is a fusion, which he was suspecting before (but might not have suspected quite as soon as he did if I hadn’t told him that most fusions are voiced by singers. Whoops.) But he was making comments like, “Now that’s interesting; There’s 3 gems opening that door, but 4 gems lit up,” and “Does she have a gem on each hand? So she has 2 gems.”
Now he’s saying things like “Now that we’ve kinda seen Rose outside of her photos and paintings, I’m not seeing this great powerful leader. Seems like she’s just some regular chick,” and “She said in that video to Steven that half of her was going to become half of him. Where’s the other half? Is she still in there? Where did she go? Is Steven a fusion?” And I’m just vibrating trying not to give any spoilers. I just get to smile and nod and say, “those are all great questions. Lots of people were asking those questions at this point in the show.”
Without having seen another episode with Peridot in it, just one where she’s mentioned, he says, “I can just see Peridot becoming one of those characters that are less a villain and more a kooky, tinkery, ‘things need to be this way’ kinda characters.”
I had to bite my tongue so hard you guys.
While watching the couple episodes when Peridot was living in the bathroom:
Boyfriend: See? This is exactly the kind of character I was talking about.
Me: I had to bite my tongue so hard.
Him: (smugly) I knew I was right.
After watching The Answer:
Him: You know, when we found out Garnet was those two, I thought we’d start seeing them around the temple unfused as their own little people once in a while, but now after this and the other episode with Peridot and how she reacted, wanting to see them unfused now seems kinda rude and… almost racist somehow?
(He’s aware racist isn’t the right word, but couldn’t think of a better one at the time.)
Peedee is apparently his favorite character. Says he’s the most level-headed and go-with-the-flow character in the show. I can’t say he’s wrong.
After watching The Trial:
Me: So, what do you think happened to Pink Diamond?
Him: Well, at this point, they’re leaning real hard into me wanthing to THINK Yellow did it, but I’m thinking they’re going to throw a curveball and it’ll be Blue or something. *pause* I can’t think of anyone Earth-side who would be able to…
Him: Wait. Whose pearl was Pearl?
Me: >:)
Me: I’m surprised you didn’t ask that back when Peridot revealed that pearls belonged to people.
Him: I just thought she belonged to Rose.
After watching Your Mother and Mine:
Him: I’m not sure what to think about it. I mean, why would they even put it in my head that Pink Diamond might still be around and then have Garnet just shut it down. If they wanted us to think she was still alive, then Garnet should have paused or hesitated or something.
Me: *don’t say maybe garnet doesn’t know don’t tell him don’t give any hints*
