the reason garak/parmak/bashir works is that it has the potential for 3-way mutual pining

garak: julian and kelas are able to get married.. they belong in the same profession/social class..

bashir: elim and kelas are probably going to marry each other.. after all, they are both cardassians, unlike me, and they have a prior relationship from all those ages ago..

parmak: elim and julian are probably already secretly married.. they’ve connected so much when living on ds9.. they shared so many intense events together, won a war together..

Doctor Bashir is great and all, but Parmak has been much more reliable and a soothing balm to our poor lizard, ex-Obsidian Order, out of exile, now-a-Castellan friend Garak.

You don’t really get a description of what Parmak looks like in McCormak’s post-canon DS9 novels, but I’ve latched on to the fandom’s general description of longer white hair, thinner, older, and friggin’ adorable. Anyone else feel like if Parmak was on earth during the 70s he would have been at Woodstock?

Garak certainly has a type though, doesn’t he?

(kicking myself that I saved my finished csp file before I could save a lineart version)

Nox was really great to work with. I was very surprised how quickly Kelas was done as well! I’m so pleased with him. Beautiful colors and just how I imagine him. I feel like it’s not just a portrait but it has emotion with it too–which does not always happen with art so that’s even more exciting to me. The colors are nice and stormy which I find beautiful and Kelas, to me at least, looks both very kind but also full of sass. I’d love to point out the glasses too–I didn’t ask for a specific glasses design just let the artist pick and I love what they came up with–they look very Cardassian and reflect the construction of those big viewscreens the Cardassians are fond of plastering on the sides of their buildings for propaganda news and such.

I’m so happy with this!

If you guys would like to commission Nox here is his info

Did you read A Stitch in Time and have a lot of questions love it?

I wrote a sequel for it called Notions, which you can read here.  It’s complete, and addresses:

  • Julian’s response.
  • The point at which Parmak and Garak are legitimately living together.
  • Garak using the modified holodeck technology to relive past events.
  • Kel Lokar.
  • Different and less depressing ways Garak learns to build memorials.
  • Reasons Pythas could not stay in contact, and why Garak never went looking for him.
  • Also, just how in love Garak was with Pythas (and everyone else at the Institute)
  • Gul Madred’s determination to make everyone (more) miserable.
  • Self-healing vs. having a support system.

And then some other things I threw in just because:

  • trans Julian, gnc Parmak
  • thinly-veiled threats at the Cardassian science/military binary (mostly at the hands of Garak and Parmak.)
  • Cardassia as a whole coming to terms with the idea of poly relationships instead of all continuing to be unfaithful to each other, like it’s a universal issue over there or something (Parmak has the solution, bless him)
  • war orphans
  • themes fit for a repetitive epic

cleaning out my wips folder! I found this adorable sketch from over a year ago and decided to throw some color on it

Back in the day I was deeply discussing OT3 headcanons with someone- I can’t remember who message me- about Parmak/Garak/Bashir, but mainly focusing on the Parmak and Bashir part. Somewhere along the line, we decided that Bashir went to work at the same hospital as Parmak, and Bashir told Parmak of an old earth tradition of doctors giving children patients lollipops after a visit. Parmak was absolutely delighted by this, and decided to start doing this for cardassian children.

It’s still one of the most delightful ideas and I love it
